What are mind maps?

Mind maps are the visual representation of the brain thoughts to a more understandable and logically achievable format.
The mind is a goal seeking device which is engineered to deliver an optimum performance when the definiteness of the task has been laid out. Mind maps serve to seek the same through a mix of creativity, imagination, and logic. This provides your brain with a greater clarity and potential for absorbing and presenting new ideas.
For effective mind mapping of your thoughts try to make use of colored pens, chalks, pictures, sticky notes and other creativity items your mind can think of to allow your mind to expand in ways that will amaze you.

Why use mind mapping?

Dealing with work overwhelm in workplaces, organizations, college, the school we tend to go downward spiral owing to the fatigue, monotony, and lack of a defined direction. Laying down a defined work plan beforehand in the form of mind maps is a must to deal with such stressors.
Using mind maps, we can simply and effectively ease the workflow of our neural structures in a way that allows them to deliver best results. Once you start mind mapping your thoughts, you will never look back as you will get addicted to the way your mind reveals its true potential.

I used to take formal notes in lines of blue, and underline the key words in red, and I realized I needed only the key words and the idea. Then to bring in connections, I drew arrows and put in images and codes. It was a picture outside my head of what was inside my head – ‘mind map’ is the language my brain spoke Tony Buzan

Due to our inherent habit, we try to solve critical issues with our left brain or the analytical mind ignoring the creative potential of the right brain.By using mind maps complete syntheses of creativity and logic comes forth to bring brain in perfect alignment with your intentions and goals.

Steps to mind map

• Start out with a central theme or the core task at the center of the page
• Divide this task into branches linking each branch with a specific keyword
• The main branches can be further subdivided into child branches depending upon the tasks associated
• Keep repeating the child branches until you are sure that the task has been mapped out in full depth

While drawing mind maps it is recommended to use a one-word keyword for each branch rather than taking a two or three-word phrase. Mind associates each keyword with a certain behavior that triggers action and firing up of neurons to allow further interconnections. Choosing a single broad keyword increases the span of topics and aids in an easy remembrance.

You don’t need to be an artist to initiate your mind mapping journey. Just grab a piece of an A4 paper, colors that suit you and bring forth the genie sitting right back in your mind that can reveal its true potential once you start mind mapping your thoughts.
